The Makeathon is a great opportunity for Hampshire students to push the boundaries of their creativity and gain
experience building real projects start to finish. During the 36 hour jam, you'll get the chance to learn from
your peers and professors. It's your time to try things you've been meaning to try and things you've never heard of,
with support from our volunteers.
Join a space for creatives across disciplines to meet each other and make something using
their unique gifts and talents in 36 hours or less!

When you arrive on Friday night at 7pm, there will be an initial sign-in. If you haven't already, you'll find
a group in the team-building session, unless you would prefer to work alone. Final team sign-ups are at 9pm.
When the jam begins, the theme will be announced. It will be a word or phrase that should inspire
the creative direction of your project, but will not impede the kind of project you can do. For example, the theme
could be "growth", which could inspire a photobook of plants, a paper on population increases in northeastern cities, or
a folk album about adolescence.
Throughout the weekend, teams are encouraged to work in the R.W Kern Center so they can make the most of the volunteers
and company of other teams, but you are welcome to work elsewhere and come back to the Kern if you need help. This
will also be where food/snacks will be delivered, and where group problem-solving sessions will be held on
Saturday. Check the schedule for more details!
On Sunday morning we will check in with each group to create a plan for showcasing your projects. Submission will begin at
9am, and will end at 10am, which gives us two hours to help you prepare your project to be showcased in the Kern (unless
it is better suited to another venue. For example, a dance would be showcased in MDB dance studio). We expect the showcase to run
until 3-4pm; please plan on at least one of your group members being present to show off all your hard work to our community! Inspire
your peers to attempt new things themselves (maybe even next year, fingers crossed) :)
